This is one of the first paintings I did on canvas when I started experimenting with acrylics a few months ago. Like my most successful paintings, it emerged relatively quickly for me. It seems that the longer I have to work at a painting, the less likely I am to arrive at something I like.
I started with quotes and symbols written in Sharpie and then painted a few random layers of shapes and colors. When I saw the eye, the rest of it practically painted itself.
I love the translucent quality of the face. I haven't been able to recreate that in later paintings for some reason.
